Kimo Bruk is among the oldest industries in Finland, established in 1703 by the Swedish-German Peter Heijke. Kimo was an ideal location for iron production due to its resources: forests providing charcoal, rapids offering water power, and a nearby harbor. The museum is housed in an iron warehouse from 1763, where you can see a miniature of the 18th-century Kimo Bruk.
In 1732, the company's second bar iron hammer was established about 2.5 km further upstream along the river, at what is known as the Upper Works or Upper Hammer, also called "Kyroboas." The hammer was erected in its current location in 1784 using gray stone. In the 1890s, Kimo Bruksbolag was formed, and the Upper Hammer was converted into a mill. The mill was in operation until 1979. Today, Kyroboas is a beautiful theater and museum area where Oravais Teater conducts summer theater activities.
